1. La Tomatina
La Tomatina is held in the town of Buñol, less than 40 km from Valencia. This is a festival famous on an international level which is attended by more than 40 000 people every. The simple aim of the festival is to throw tomatoes at each other until it reaches the point where everything is coloured red. The day that celebrates the Tomatina is always the same, the last Wednesday of August. Each year, the fight is televised nationally by the most prestigious agencies in Spain.
2. San Juan
Upon arrival of the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere, the tradition comes from the belief that we have to celebrate it by lighting a bonfire in order to give the sun more strength, because from now on it is becoming weaker and the days are getting shorter. Nowadays it has become a anual fiesta. Thousands of people meet on the shore of the beaches of Valencia on June 23 to make bonfires, drink and party. Without forgetting to jump into the waves at midnight.
3. Las Fallas
Held in Valencia from 15th to March 19th in honour of the patron saint of carpenters, San Jose. From the start of the month, the arrival of the Fallas is announced with a massive fireworks display known as a ‘mascletá’ which occurs daily in the Town Hall Square at 2:00 pm, taking in each day thousands of people both nationally and internationally . In addition, each night large tents can be found in almost every street of the city where you can drink and dance until you drop. The festival is called Fallas due to the construction of ‘ninots’ which are huge wooden cartoon figures built in each neighbourhood which by the last night are finally burned at the stakes with cheers from the locals and millions of visitors from all over the world. This is the craziest time of the year here in Valencia, and a must for people who like to party.
4. Carnival Rafelbuñol
The first Friday of September each year, more than 40,000 people attend the Carnival Rafelbuñol. It is a unique event in Valencia where you start drinking at 7 pm and end at 12 am.Beer and costumes are the predominant themes of the night. Once there, you have bars, pubs and beer sellers on the streets and even an orchestra that is responsible for everyone dancing by the end of the night. . So guys, if you are in the Nest you can not miss this party, I am sure you’ll love it and will have never seen so many people in costume. Keep in mind that if you go in a costume, you will have a much better time!
5. La Semana Santa Marinera del Cabañal
Maritime Holy Week is the celebration of Easter in the city of Valencia, celebrated especially in the maritime village like Grao, Cabañal and Canamelar. The celebration dates back to the fifteenth century. Scenes of tradition and religious celebration occur in parishes located between the port and the neighbouring town of Alboraya.
