A must-see in San Sebastian: Basque Culinary Center
- One of the most stunning buildings in San Sebastian is the one housing the Basque Culinary Center. The Center, located in Miramon Technology Park, it’s a functional building designed by Vaumm architects, a San Sebastian-based architectural firm. Their design avails the slope in the terrain to organize the space and the different levels of the building, which is surrounded by a green countryside. Finished in 2011, this is one of the must-see buildings -even if you are not into architecture- in the San Sebastian area.
- It was back in 2009 when the Basque Culinary Center Foundation was founded as the first project in Spain to integrate professional gastronomy, cooking and catering activities in university classrooms. The Mondragon Unibertsitatea, the Basque chefs and the public institutions worked together to make real this ambitious project supported by renowned chefs. Two years later, the Faculty of Gastronomic Sciences opened its classrooms, being at the cutting edge of Food Research and Innovation of our times.
- The center focuses on Research and Innovation in Food and Gastronomy such as: food education and habits, food social responsibility, food trends, innovation in business, management in the sector, development of associated technologies, food preparation, presentation and conservation.
For those passionate about cookery, the BCC organizes cooking courses, both in Spanish and English.
